Clifden Covid-19 Commemoration Ceremony

On Sunday 20 March Cantairi Chonamara led a commemoration event in Clifden to remember and celebrate the lives of all those who died during the Covid-19 pandemic, in the North Connemara area. The event consisted of singing from the choir, readings and poems, planting a commemorative yew tree and the siting of a specially commissioned seat, where residents and visitors may sit for a moment’s quiet reflection and to remember their loved ones who died during this period. The names of the dead were recorded in a condolence book and read out during the ceremony, and families and friends attached the names of their loved ones around the tree.
